Canton Ballet Auditions Nutcracker for 5 - 9 Year Olds

Canton Ballet is extending "Nutcracker" performance opportunities to children in Stark and surrounding counties for the first time. Cassandra Crowley, Artistic Director of the award-winning pre-professional school and company, announced that she will cast approximately 40 - 60 children in special roles for one performance only. "Performing in "The Nutcracker," before a live audience at the Canton Palace Theatre is such a wonderful opportunity for children involved in dance," she commented, "and we know there are many talented children in other dance schools who would enjoy this experience."

The public auditions are only for the performance to be held on Sunday, December 16 at 7 pm.. Students of Canton Ballet will be cast for all other performances, on Friday, December 14 at 8 p.m., Saturday, December 15 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, December 16 at 2 p.m.. Members of the Company of Canton Ballet will, as always, dance the major roles in all the performances.

Public auditions for this special performance of "The Nutcracker" will be held Sunday, September 16, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at Canton Ballet's studios, located in the Cultural Center for the Arts at 1001 Market Avenue, N. in Canton. Both boys and girls, aged 5 through 9, who have been taking dance for at least one year, are eligible to audition. Those cast must be available for rehearsals to be scheduled through November and early December and a performance at 7.00 p.m. on Sunday, December 16 with the Company of Canton Ballet. There is an audition fee of $5 and cast members pay a costume fee of $25. Students of Canton Ballet need not audition.
