Twyla Tharp Dance Hits the Road
Twyla Tharp Dance has taken off on a major domestic and foreign tour that includes performances in over 25 cities throughout the United States and Europe. Schedu1ed for the road are Tharp's most recent hits "Mozart Clarinet Quintet K. 581" and "Surfer at the River Styx," as well as her 1969 classic "The One Hundreds."
Some of the major American venues include the Paramount Theater in Seattle, WA (November 2 & 3); Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL (January 17); Philharmonic Center for the Performing Arts, Naples, FL (January 20); McFarlin Auditorium in Dallas (January 25 & 26); Wexner Center for the Performing Arts, Columbus, OH (February 1); Rialto Center for the Performing Arts, Atlanta, GA (March 16); Power Center at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (March 23 & 24). Internationally, the company will be seen at the Holland Dance Festival in The Hague (November 27 & 28) and at la Maison de la Danse in Lyon on December 10-16. The tour repertory consists of two programs: Program A ("Mozart Clarinet Quintet K. 581" and "Surfer at the River Styx") and Program B ("Known by Heart Duet," "Westerly Round" and "Hammerklavier."
The re-established Twyla Tharp Dance, an extension of the choreographer's 35 year interest in creating performers capable of combining all aspects of dance, is comprised of preeminent modern and ballet dancers including Ashley Tuttle, Elizabeth Parkinson, Keith Roberts, John Selya, Benjamin Bowman and Alexander Brady.
