Appalachian Ballet Co. Hosts SERBA

The Appalachian Ballet Company will be hosting the annual festival of Regional Dance America /Southeast Regional Ballet association in Knoxville, Tennessee, April 17-21, 2002. RDA/SERBA Festival will bring more than 800 attendees from throughout the Southeast to Knoxville during the Dogwood Arts Festival for four days of intensive dance education. The Hyatt Regency will be the headquarter hotel, with three performances at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. Appalachian Ballet Company artistic director Amy Moore Morton is pleased to hold this festival during ABC's 30th anniversary season.

The adjudicator chosen for this year's festival is Mr. Jeffrey Gribler, ballet master of Pennsylvania Ballet. Mr. Gribler has adjudicated the Northeast Region several times, but this marks his first judging of the Southeast. Production Director, Jan Valenti of Appalachian Ballet and Lighting Designer, Josh Monroe of NYC will handle all aspects of productions. The faculty will be Ballet Teachers; Alan Hineline and Melinda Howe of Central Pennsylvania Ballet, Thom Clower, freelance ballet teacher, Helen Starr and Alun Jones of Louisville Ballet, Teaching modern with the accompaniment of University of Tennessee percussive ensemble will be Patricia Kenny from Patricia Kenny Dance Collection, NYC, Teaching music to dancers will be Jerome Begin, musician from Richmond Ballet, Teaching jazz will be Ashlie Solomon of NYC, Teaching variations will be Cari Martin of Atlanta and Tracy Ryan teaching yoga is from Knoxville. Pianists will be Paul Lewis, Atlanta Ballet, Patience Clements, Nashville and Ruth Gilbert, Louisville, KY.

The 26 ballet companies will be treated to a Kick up your heels party, a Welcome to Little Italy party and the annual RDA/SERBA Gala awards banquet. •
