Choreographers Corner - Contemporary Workshop & Showcase
Kris Cangelosi, director of Choreographers Corner, will host a workshop and showcase August 12-17, 2002, in Columbia, South Carolina.
The workshop will consist of 30 dancers who are pre-professional, college or emerging performers from the ages of 16 to 25 years of age. Dancers must be at intermediate to advanced level in modern and or jazz dance to participate in the workshop. The focus is teaching contemporary styles, technique, and exploring new innovated movement for performance.
Eight choreographers will be reviewed by video or in person to bring their talents to the workshop in defining their work through the choreographic process to the dancers. The schedule will begin with a two- hour technique class, Improvisation class, break, Choreographic study and Repertory class. A showcase presenting the choreographers' works will be held Friday evening at 8:15pm, Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm and Saturday evening at 8:15pm.
Dancers who are interested in participating as a dancer need to submit an application by calling or e-mailing for the registration form. Dancers need to enroll for the workshop by June 15th, 2002. The workshop fee for dancers is $225.00 for the week. A $25.00 deposit will need to be mailed with application for position to participate. Choreographers' requirements are to submit an application form, or submit a 5-minute work in progress or performed within the last three years, write a short description on your technique, ideas and presentation you wish to accomplish, and resume by June 12th, 2002.
