Cindy Edmondson

Cindy Edmondson, a sophomore at Brandon High School, Brandon, MS, performed as the Sugarplum Fairy in "The Nutcracker," at the Madison County Cultural Center on December l5-16. This was Edmondson's second year as the Sugarplum Fairy and fifth year to perform in "The Nutcracker."

The Sugarplurn Fairy is a very trying part which takes a lot of stamina," Edmondson said. "Not only do you have to be technically sound, you have to have the face and attitude of the Sugarplum Fairy. It is a real challenge."

In Edmondson's ten years of dance training, she has gained several intensive summer work-shops, including one at Joffrey Ballet in New York. She was named the "Southern Belle Ballerina" in the August 2000 issue of Dancer Magazine. In July 2002, she represented Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana at the Miss Dance Masters of America in Florida.

Ballet is also in Edmondson's future. "This is something I enjoy doing," Edmondson said. "Just like any sport, you have to love it to be good at it."

Cindy is a 10th grade honor roll student and a member of Beta Club at Brandon High School. Her goal is to one day join a professional ballet company, but for now she will keep on dancing! •
