Boston Ballet Announces Launch of Elder Dance Program

Boston - Boston Ballet launched the first year of its one-of-a-kind ElderDance program, on May 7, 2002. In partnership with Newton Wellesley Hospital's Physical Therapy Department, Boston Ballet School has created a unique, energizing dance class for older adults.

ElderDance classes are designed to help students increase their physical strength, body awareness, balance, and flexibility. Boston Ballet School teachers design classes to allow each student to experience dance as a collective, social experience and also as a way to rediscover individual spirit and enthusiasm. "We have created these classes as an alternative to traditional exercise, where participants are welcomed into a positive atmosphere that enables them to recharge mentally and emotionally.

Dance aids in the increase of physical strength, and rekindles inner spirit and enthusiasm. Our mission is to ignite passion in our students and help enrich their lives, through dance and movement," said Center for Dance Education Director, Rachel Moore. ElderDance began on Tuesday, May 7 and ran though June 11, 2002. Each one-hour class met once a week , beginning at 11:30 a.m., at the Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education Metro West Studio.
