National Society of Arts and Letters 2002 Ballet Competition
A competition highlighting leading area ballet students was held at Washington University on Sunday, May 5, organized by Nathalie LeVine, Dance Chairman of the Saint Louis Chapter.
The results of the competition were:
1st Place - MEGAN BUCKLEY, 15, Ellisville, MO - Alexandra Ballet
(Silver Fairy variation from "The Sleeping Beauty")
2nd Place - CONSUELO WILLIAMS, 14, Maryland Heights, MO - Alexandra Ballet
(variation from "La Vintana")
3rd Place - ANDREA LUCAS, 15, St. Charles, MO - Alexandra Ballet
(Kitri variation from "Don Quixote," Act II)
The National Society of Arts and Letters is a non-profit, volunteer organization that endeavors to discover America's top artists at the beginning of their careers and encourage, assist, and introduce them to established members of their profession.
Twenty-five dancers from the bi-state area were first judged in a class led by Christine O'Neal, Senior Artist-in-Residence, Washington University Performing Arts Department. Following the class, each dancer performed a variation of their choice from a classical ballet.
The panel of judges consisted of: Jan Albus - Executive Director, St. Louis Variety Club;
Sa11y Bliss - Executive Director, Dance St. Louis ; Gary Hubler - Webster University Department of Dance
