Dance Scholarship Competition Announced

The 22nd annual Carey Rose Winski Dance Scholarship Competition will be held this year on Sunday, September 29, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. in the Lou Conte Dance Studio - Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, 1147 W. Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, IL 60607. The competition is open to any dancer male or female in the United States between the ages of 13 and 18. Scholarships totaling $1500 are given to the winners. The winners choose the schools for their further training.

The Gus Giordano Dance Center, the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago and Motion Unlimited have also given scholarships.

Competitors participate in a one-hour classical warm up class and perform two three minute solos, one in classical ballet (en pointe for girls) and one in any eclectic style - Jazz, Modern, Character, etc.

Judges for this year's competition are well-known international dance critic and historian Ann Barzel, International Dance Jazz Master Gus Giordano, Mark Goldwebber, Ballet Master of The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Randy Duncan, critically acclaimed choreographer, and Greg Begley, principal dancer and teacher.

This competition is in memory of Carey Rose Winski, who lived and received her dance training in Michigan City, Indiana. She was 17 years old at the time of her death in 1980. The Carey Rose Winski Memorial Foundation was formed to perpetuate Carey's memory and her love of dance.
