Houston Ballet Presents the Company Premiere of Stanton Welch's Madame Butterfly
Houston, Texas - From September 19 - 29, 2002, Houston Ballet brings one of the world's great love stories to the ballet stage with the Houston premiere of "Madame Butterfly," choreographed by Australian Stanton Welch. The production, set to Puccini's memorable score, in an arrangement by John Lanchbery, unfolds dramatically on Peter Farmer's picturesque sets, which beautifully evoke the mystery and languor of nineteenth century Japan. The work will be performed alongside Ben Stevenson's "Five Poems," which is set to Richard Wagner's "Wesendonck Lieder" and features exquisite designs by the celebrated actress Jane Seymour. Houston Ballet will give seven performances of the fall repertory program at Wortham Theater Center in downtown Houston.
Houston Ballet begins its 2002-03 season with a revival of the epic love story "Manon," choreographed by Sir Kenneth MacMillan and featuring scenery and costumes by the acclaimed designer Peter Farmer. The Company will give six performances of "Manon" from September 5-15, 2002 at Wortham Theater Center.
