Cinderella Prepares to Dazzle Milwaukee Audiences

The curtain will rise on the Milwaukee Ballet's 2002-2003 season of fairy tales with the presentation of Jean Paul Commelin's "Cinderella," September 26-29,2002 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

"Cinderella" is the story of a young peasant girl, her two wicked stepsisters and the quest for true love. Cursed to a lifetime of drudgery, Cinderella lives her life in despair until a magical meeting with her fairy godmother changes her destiny. During this meeting, Cinderella is provided with a shimmering gown, glittering glass slippers arid a luxurious stagecoach to carry her to Prince Charming's ball. After winning the favor of Prince Charming, the clock strikes midnight and all that remains of the magical evening is a single glass slipper.

"I am delighted to present this classic tale to Milwaukee audiences," said choreographer and former Milwaukee Ballet artistic director, Jean Paul Commelin. "With a dash of romance, a hint of evil and a splash of magic, this is a tale that audience members of all ages are sure to enjoy."

This family-friendly production will welcome Jean Paul Commelin back to its studios. A respected choreographer, Commelin is known for bringing the first production of "The Nutcracker" to Milwaukee in 1976. More recently, premieres of works such as "Mozart Requiem" and "Les Nuits D'Ete" have earned Commelin considerable acclaim from Milwaukee audiences.

"Cinderella" will inaugurate the Milwaukee Ballet's season of fairy tales, set to include Lisa de Ribere's "The Nutcracker," and Kathryn Posin's world premiere of "Scheherazade."
