The Harid Conservatory Hosts Largest- Ever Summer Dance Program

Sixty-four talented young dancers from 27 U.S. states, and from Canada, Spain, and Japan, assembled in Boca Raton, Florida to study at the renowned Harid Conservatory this summer.

The four-week Summer School attracted many of the country's most talented young ballet students. In addition to enjoying the opportunity to study with the Conservatory's world-class faculty, the students visited and experienced a number of South Florida's wonderful attractions.

The Summer School offered a comprehensive and demanding schedule of classes, with an emphasis on ballet. The students attended four classes daily, Mondays through Fridays, and an additional class on Saturday mornings. Studies included ballet technique, pointe, men's work, partnering, variations, repertoire, character dance, jazz dance, modern dance, music studies, nutrition, and injury prevention.

Last winter, Harid's director and faculty auditioned nearly 500 students in 20 cities across the United States. International students either visited the school or submitted audition videotapes. Of these, 16 young men and 48 young women were invited to attend the Summer School. They, in turn, competed for the 20 spaces available to new students for the 2002-03 academic year. Summer School serves as an extended audition for those seeking admission to Harid on a full-time basis.

The opportunity to attend Harid's Summer School is a special one. The Conservatory's renowned teachers and state-of-the-art facilities, combined with South Florida's enviable environment and amenity, make the students' experience unique and unforgettable. And, for those fortunate enough to be invited to return to Harid for the following academic year, Summer School is the answer to a dream: the chance to study at one of North America's foremost professional- training schools.
