Alonzo King's LINES Ballet Celebrates 20th Anniversary with San Francisco Season

Alonzo King's LINES Ballet celebrates the company's 20th Anniversary with a special San Francisco season, October 10-20 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Mr. King will create a new work for dance impresario Rasta Thomas, heralded as one of the finest male dancers to emerge in decades. In addition to the new work for Rasta Thomas, the program for the 20th Anniversary season will include a wide range of work that Mr. King has created for LINES Ballet and other companies, including: "Ocean" (1991) - with music by jazz saxophonist/composer Pharoah Sanders, with Mr. Sanders performing as a guest artist; "Cante" (1991) - with traditional flamenco music arranged by Donald Fontowitz. La Tania, one of the world's outstanding flamenco dancers, will appear with LINES as a guest artist for the re-staging of this popular piece; "Without Wax" (1990) - with music by Sofia Gubaidulina and Bohuslav Martinu.

A pre-performance 20th Anniversary Celebration dinner party takes place at the W Hotel, located at 131 3rd Street, on Thursday, October 10, at 5:30 p.m.

The program will be presented on: Thursday, October 10 - Sunday, October 20,2002 October 10, 8:30 p.m.;
October 11-12 and 16-19, 8:00 p.m.; October 13 and 20,7:00 p.m. Ticket Prices are $20/35/50 regular;
10 percent discount for students/seniors/members. Ticket Prices for 20th Anniversary Celebration are $250
(includes Celebration dinner party and performance admission).

The Performances will be at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, 701 Mission Street (at Third Street), San Francisco.
