Miami City Ballet Dancers Shine At 2002 International Ballet Competition Intern in Jackson, Mississippi

Mikhail Ilyin, a Principal Soloist and Katia Carranza, a Soloist with Miami City Ballet (MCB) won the bronze medals in the senior category at the recent 2002 International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi. Yaroslav Salenko, a Corps member with MCB, was awarded a diploma. Professional dancers from 25 countries participated in the event which is held every four years. The International Ballet Competition in Jackson is one of the most important ballet competitions within the international dance community.

Edward Villella, Founding Artistic Director of Miami City Ballet, served as Honorary Chair for the event, and Miami City Ballet dancers performed Villella's "Mambo No 2a.m." and George Balanchine's "Rubies."

"I am very proud of what our dancers accomplished at this competition," said Edward Villella. "It is also a great privilege to have served as Honorary Chair to such a prestigious gathering," he added. •
