Martha Mahr Student Joins Orlando Ballet
Coral Gables, FL - Martha Mahr, founder and director of the renowned Martha Mahr School of Ballet in Coral Gables, announced that her student Celia Merendi has been invited to join Orlando Ballet, under the artistic direction of internationally acclaimed dancer Fernando Bujones, as a trainee. In this capacity, she will train, rehearse and perform with the company during the 2002-2003 season.
Celia, a student of Martha Mahr since the age of five, will graduate from New World School of the Arts in June. In the fall, she will simultaneously attend Rollins College in Orlando, FL, where she was awarded the Harriet W. Cornell Scholarship given to students on the basis of leadership initiative, community involvement and sensitivity to diversity.
This year, Celia has also earned several scholarships and recognitions, including The Agneta Liljedahl Ballet Scholarship Fund 2002 award, National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts 2002 award certificate, and finalist of the 2002 Donna Reed Foundation National Scholarship Competition.
