Toussaint Finds Czech Mates 20-year-old Konvalina leads solid performances at Saint-Sauveur
Satisfied spectators leaped to their feet several times during the Czech National Ballet's North American premiere at the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur in Montreal. They applauded the handsome young dancers but were also responding to some lovely moments embedded in four ballets by ex-Montrealer Eddy Toussaint.
Toussaint is the resident choreographer for this company from Moravia and Silesia, a group that has a lot in common with his old Ballet de Montreal for which he made four works on the program: "Bonjour Brel," "Cantates," "Un Simple Moment; and "Concerto en Mouvement."
The Czech company is very youthful and personable. At 20, the company's star, Zdenek Konvalina, is a senior dancer. The award-winning Konvalina also has the stage presence of a Rudolf Nureyev. Keep your eyes open for this company and for Adenek Konvalina. For more information, call 832.758.0011.
