The American Ballet Competition
The American Ballet Competition (ABC), a competition that awards company traineeships and scholarships to national and international ballet companies and cash awards, announces its 2005 competition dates: June 10-12 in Miami, Florida - the competition is hosted at the New World School of the Arts - Dance Division..ABC is pleased to announce a new enhancement to the competition this year: a Teachers Workshop with Paris Opera Ballet Professor Gilbert Mayer (ret). Master classes, variation coaching sessions and workshops will be held for all competitors. Teachers may audit master classes and competition rounds as well. Distinguished faculty, advisors and jury include Mr. Mayer; Anna Marie Holmes, Daniel Lewis, Michael Uthoff, Kee-Juan Han, Katherine Kersten, Victoria Morgan, Fiona Fuerstner, Michael Pink, Marian Horosko, Wendy Masterson, Sharon Story and Martin Fredmann, among others.
The 2005 competition will be held in 3 divisions: Juniors ages 10 & 11; Seniors ages 13-15 and Pre-Professionals ages 16-19. Students will compete for ballet company traineeships, scholarships and cash prizes.
Companies and schools awarding traineeships and scholarships include the Victor Ullate Ballet School, Madrid, Spain; Milwaukee Ballet School, Colorado Ballet and Academy; American Ballet Theatre; Ballet Austin Academy; Atlanta Ballet's Center for Dance Education; Ballet International's Clara R.Noyes Academy; Cincinnati Ballet's Otto M. Budig Academy; Interlochen Arts Academy and Camp; Florida Dance Festival and Joffrey Ballet School.
Dance company artistic directors are invited to attend the competition which also serves as a showcase audition for their companies. Competitors may be viewed in class, rehearsal and performance.
The competition, founded by Katherine Kersten, Producing Artistic Director of the Vail International Dance Festival in Vail, Colorado and Kee-Juan Han, faculty member at North Carolina School of the Arts established ABC (a not-for-profit organization) to provide master classes and coaching sessions with internationally recognized teachers, scholarships and cash awards in a "nurturing, friendly and organized atmosphere with the primary goal being the artistic and technical growth of each student.
