The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is now calling for nom-inees in the fine and performing arts for its 2006 Graduate Scholarship Program. The program offers some of the largest, most competitive scholarships available. The scholarships are worth up to $300,000 each. Jack Kent Cooke made his name in professional sports, including as owner of the Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Lakers. But he had another interest - the arts, a passion which, early in his career, led him to become a musician, composer, collector of art, and even a leader of a big band. Today, his legacy, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, is calling for nominees in the fine and performing arts for its 2006 Graduate Scholarship Program. The program offers some of the largest, most competitive scholarships available. The scholarships are worth up to $300,000 each.
The deadline for applying for these scholarships is May 1, 2006. Candidates, who can be either current students or recent alumni, must be nominated by the faculty representative at their undergraduate institution. The list of faculty representatives, eligibility criteria, and application materials are available on the Foundation's website, www.jackkentcookefoundation.org, or by calling 1-800-498-6478.
The Foundation will announce the recipients in early summer 2006. The value and duration of each award, which can total as much as $50,000 per year, varies based on such factors as the institutional cost of attendance and other grants each student receives. A panel of national experts will assist the Foundation in selecting recipients. The Foundation last year awarded ten of these scholarships to students in the arts.
