Jazz on Tap
The 19th annual "JAZZ ON TAP" (the metro Atlanta Jazz and Tap Dance Festival) hosted by DanceFest, Inc. and "Dancentre South Company" will be presented Friday, March 3 at 7:30pm, Saturday, March 4 at 2:00pm and 7:3apm and Sunday, March 5 at 2:00pm at the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center Theatre at Southern Polytechnic State University, Marietta, Georgia. "Dance styles ranging from sizzling hot jazz to cool tap performed to many idioms of music are sure to entertain the audience!," remarks Marcus R. Alford, Artistic Director and Founder of "JAZZ ON TAP."
This year's festival showcases performances by over 40 companies from the metro Atlanta area and throughout the US including Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio, Arkansas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida and Alabama. The Friday night performance will feature a special salute to Metro Atlanta dance companies.
A dance workshop featuring classes in jazz, tap, lyrical, musical theatre and hip hop will be presented on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 in conjunction with the festival. Master class faculty will include Jordan Smith of Atlanta, GA, Lyn Cramer of Oklahoma City, OK, Joel Ruminer of Little Rock, AR, Michael Lemanski of Detroit MI, Jackie Troup Miller of Dallas, TX, Dustin Phillips of Los Angeles, CA and festival Artistic Director, Marcus R. Alford.
Young Atlanta artist Jae Tsai, graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, has created the festival's 2006 logo and regional visual artists Richard Harrison and Willie Williams will be displaying works at the festival.
