In your February 2006 issue, a piece entitled "Ballet's Secret Scandals, Colorado Ballet In Turmoil," repeats an erroneous statement attributed to John Rockwell of The New York Times.
The November 25, 2005 article from which you quote states that Colorado Ballet "announced the cancellation of six of its scheduled 30 'Nutcracker' performances, citing poor ticket sales."
The fact is, Colorado Ballet absolutely did NOT cite poor ticket sales when we decided to reduce the number of 'Nutcracker' performances. Please see the attached original press release announcing the show reductions for the complete explanation of this decision.
In addition, Colorado Ballet contacted Mr. Rockwell to alert him of his mistake at the time the article ran.
I trust that Dancer Magazine will note this mistake and correct it.
Sincerely,
Andrea Berggren

Janice Barringer's responds to Colorado Ballet:

In a personal conversation with John Rockwell, Chief Dance Critic for The New York Times, Mr. Rockwell said that the Colorado Ballet sent an e-mail to him saying they did not cancel those performances because the tickets didn't sell. They cancelled for financial efficiency. "I interpreted their verbiage and explanation as being the same as that they needed to save money, and weren't selling enough tickets. Obviously, if they had been selling the tickets, they would have kept the performances. I sent an e-mail to them to that effect, and I never heard back one way or the other."

Dear Owen,
We're so sorry to have taken so long to acknowledge and thank you and Dancer for the wonderful "spread" in the December issue.
We've had a terrific 41 years doing this "Sister Act," and it was so nice to see the story work, as recognition for our "Nutcracker and Much, Much More."
We all know "There's No Business like Show Business," but it sure is a lot more fun when you can share it with your friends and for us, you're more the "family" living in a different city!
Thank you again and again for the incredible friendship you have shown us over the years, for the encouragement, "atta boys" and for loving Natalie too!
Love always,
Miriam & Valerie

Dance Educators of America is bereaved to announce the passing of our Beloved Past President and Membership Chairperson Gertrude Hallenbeck.
Her contributions to DANCE EDU-CATORS OF AMERICA have been unlimited during her lifetime. Miss Hallenbeck has been a master teacher in the field of ballet, she has taught for every major dance teacher organization .
Gertrude believed that knowledge had to be recorded and made available to others and since she had the good fortune to have studied with teachers who gave so much in clarity of exclamation and visualizing what dance can and should be she began to share it through books presenting the basic facts concerning classical ballet, dearest to her heart.
To Teach Is To Learn Twice: Purpose was to provide for DANCE EDUCATORS OF AMERICA a body of information to be used as a syllabus in preparation for The Membership Entrance Examination
DANCE EDUCATORS OF AMERICA will never forget this beautiful, elegant lady and a perpetual scholarship will be given in her name at every regional DEA has in future years. Her famous words were, "Good teachers pass the torch and DEA will strive to keep her Standard of Excellence."

Dear Jo,
All of us at Tappers With Attitude send our appreciation for Melba Huber's terrific article about our company's 15th anniversary season. Melba does so much for our worldwide tap community; it is a real treat to be included in "Tappin' In." Thank you, and Owen too, for your continued support of tap dance.
It was a special honor to be featured in an issue with a cover graced by Henry LeTang, and which also featured our brilliant hometown dancer Nejla Yatkin. That we share space in the same magazine which draws much-deserved attention to these amazing artists, is humbling!
We invite everyone to drop by and visit Knock On Wood Tap Studio anytime they are in the DC area, or to visit our website, www.knockonwoodtap.org, for more info about classes, events, and TWA's anniversary concert in June.
All Best,
Vicki Moss
