The Name Of The Game
The Name Of The Game
by Danie Beck
The competitive spirit is fun and supportive
You each do your best and for sure try to win
You warm-up you study you learn and you practice
You remember to smile and lift up that chin
You're groomed and attired in a costume just right
But remember that costume does not dim the sight
Of qualified judges who look for technique
So don't think your costume "will carry" your feet
Your routine was choreographed by a teacher who knows
How to feature your talent and abilities to show
If you do your best and do all you've been told
Your chances are great to bring home the gold
But then there are times that you won't pass the test
And you know in your heart that you danced your best
That you possibly could so take pride in yourself
And don't put your dancing away on the shelf
Learn to accept a defeat or a win
With pride and esteem and a bright cheery grin
YOU are the dancer and know deep within
If you really did well or your performance was thin
All those who know you and all those who care
Will see you've done your best and that is what's fair
No one can ask for you to do more
Your best IS your best and that is for sure
What's really important now for you to know
Is that each competition will help you to grow
You learn what to do or maybe what not
And then you return to take another shot
Sometimes you'll make it and sometimes not so
But the "spirit of trying" is what always MUST show
We work as a team we support one another
From Teacher to Student to Competitor to Mother
We hold our heads high we're proud of our claim
That WE ALL TRIED OUR BEST...that's the name of the game
