USA National Youth Ballet Competition Announces Company Position Awards, College Scholarships
The 4th biennial USA National Youth Ballet Competition will be held on October 1st at University of California, Long Beach, and on October 15 at The Washington Ballet. Dancers will vie for the gold, silver and bronze medals, scholarship prizes and awards of trainee, apprenticeship and company positions. In the last two competitions, dancers have won placement with Ballet Internationale, Milwaukee Ballet II, Cedar Lake and Sarasota Ballet. Tulsa Ballet and Milwaukee Ballet II will also be offering chances for company positions this year. Additionally, dancers will compete for college scholarship opportunities at Florida School of the Arts, Birmingham-Southern College, University of Utah and Mercyhurst College. Scholarships to the Milwaukee Ballet and Birmingham-Southern summer programs will also be awarded.
Regional and professional dance company directors as well as college and university dance program directors are invited to view the competition, which can also serve as an audition for their companies and dance programs.
Competitors are judged on classroom technique and performance quality. The entire competition takes place in one afternoon. No prior preparation or costuming is required.
The distinguished Advisory Board and Adjudicators include Marcello Angelini, former principal, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens and Director of the Tulsa Ballet, Rolando Yanes, School Director at Milwaukee Ballet, Dennis Nahat, Director of the San Jose Ballet, Andrei Klemm, Ballet Master of the German State Opera Ballet, Oksana Konobeyeva, former American Ballet Theater soloist and principal, Eldar Aliev, former Kirov Ballet principal and former Director of Ballet Internationale. Dmitri Roudnev is Artistic Director of the competition.
