Vail International Dance Festival, 2006
Colorado's Vail International Dance Festival, 2006, June 30 to August 13, starts off with Trey McIntyre's "Go Out," a blend of bluegrass spirituals and "The Diva, The Duke and the Dance" at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.
August 1 presents a free concert of Hip Hop followed, on August 2 at nearby Vilar Center for the Arts, with Jeune Ballet Du Quebec.
The International Evening of Dance of pas de deuxs by world-famous dancers opens on Friday, August 4 and Saturday, August 5 at the Amphitheater. Partners include Paloma Herrera and David Hallberg (ABT); Isabelle Ciaravola and Benjamin Pech (Paris Opéra Ballet); Anna Antonicheva and Sergei Filin (Bolshoi Ballet); Stephanie Dalphono and Alejandro Alvarez (from Madrid); Eri Nakamura and Luca Vetere (Victor Ullate Ballet); Lorna Feijoo and Damian Woetzel (Boston Ballet and NYC Ballet). On the second night, different pas de deuxs are performed.
August 8, Different Dimension includes several companies: Cleo Parker Robinson; Les Ballets de Monte Carlo (gender impersonators) for Nevada Ballet; ODC/Dance, in a fusion of classical and modern dance. August 9 introduces the Ballet de Monterrey at the Vilar Center in their blend of traditional Latin-musical culture. The National Ballet of China appears on August 11 at the Amphitheater; and the Ballroom's Best champions twirl with the British Open and Blackpool Ballroom stars on Saturday, August 12. The season closes on August 13 with "Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble" in clog dances, hoofin' and early jazz, tap, with a free family dance-along.
