Kevin Aubin
At the age of 21, South Florida dancer Kevin Aubin is living his dreams. Currently on Broadway, performing in the blockbuster hit" Wicked," Aubin will return to Fort Lauderdale, Florida August 6-10 to direct an exciting new summer program for budding young dancers.
His high concept summer intensive, "Intrigue" staff will include performers from Broadway casts of "Wicked," "Hot Feet," "Sweet Charity," "Bring in Da' Noise, Bring in Da' Funk," and "Movin' Out." The goal of the program is to introduce and develop the exceptional versatility of styles and technical prowess, required of the successful professional dancer in today's diverse marketplace, to aspiring dancers of all disciplines.
Kevin began his own dance training at the age of 4 in Miami, Florida, with Heidi and Joe Melchiona. He later moved to Fort Lauderdale, continuing his training with Encore Dance Theatre. An extremely focused young artist, Aubin wrote out his career goals at the age of 10. By the age of 21, he had attained them all, appearing in national commercials, television, film, worldwide theatrical tours, and Broadway.
Kevin's schedule as a student was arduous. As a scholarship dancer at Miami City Ballet School, and as a student at Encore Dance Theatre, his days started at 6am. He juggled classes, rehearsals and schoolwork, the payoff coming early with appearances on "Sabado Gigante," Univision, The Orange Bowl Parade, and the TV show, "Dancer." At the age of 15-1/2, Kevin accepted a scholarship to the New York City Ballet's world-acclaimed school, the School of American Ballet. He relocated to New York, attended his classes diligently, and finished his junior and senior years of academic studies at the Professional Children's School.
Kevin has danced with Radio City Music Hall, Tokyo Disney, the European tour of "West Side Story," Maurice Hines' "Hot Feet," Chicago and New York productions of "Wicked," originated the role of Paulo in the award-winning New York Musical Festival production, "Common Grounds," and appears in the soon-to-be-released film, "Across the Universe," directed by "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" Julie Taymor.
In between jobs, Aubin found the time to perform on "The Today Show," model for DKNY, and work as a commercial voice-over artist.
In addition to performing, Aubin kept his hand in the national competition circuit as a much sought-after teacher and judge.
