Three-time Tony-winner Stewart Lane, one of the producers of the new Broadway show based on the Reese Witherspoon blockbuster, is a show biz veteran. And he's gathered his wisdom and experience in Let's Put On a Show! Theatre Production for Novices --an invaluable handbook that guides you through every aspect of staging a performance successfully. And he very kindly gave us a few tips on how to succeed in showbiz!
• Smile when you audition so you look like you're enjoying your work.
• It's helpful to wear something distinctive at an audition, a colorful scarf or tank top just to set you apart from the crowd. Weight is very important, but being physically fit is even more so. It's important to show off your body as well as your abilities.
• There are so many other jobs in our industry that can be filled by experienced performers. I know casting directors, choreographers, agents, and more that started off as dancers.
• Stay healthy and in good shape and expand your talents to include acting and/or singing.
