The National Dance Association Celebrates Dance Education in America!

(June 14 - 17) and year-long exhibit at the National Museum of Dance in Saratoga Springs, New York!

The exhibit will open in honor of our dance education pioneers and Bill T. Jones of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, who will be inducted into the Dance Hall of Fame on Friday, June 15. His work-in-progress will be performed at Skidmore College in Saratoga on June 16. At the conference, Keynote Speaker Shirley Ririe of the Ririe/Woodbury Dance Company will discuss the future of dance education. "CoMotion in Motion," the award-winning modern dance program choreographed by Karen Kaufmann (University of Montana), will explore interdisciplinary topics such as Newton's Law of Motion with an original narrated script and music composed by Jee Wong and Sean Parson.

Five student dancers will perform. LeAnn Haggard, NDA K-12 Dance Educator of the Year, adjunct professor at Indiana-Purdue University currently teaches dance classes in Indianapolis public schools with a diverse population of 3,300 students - where her program has grown by leaps and bounds! Based at the Isadora Duncan International Institute, Jeanne Bresciani also teaches and performs at New York University and the Harkness Dance Center. Bresciani has reconstructed Duncan's works from archival photographs and writings, but mainly from the living memory of Isadora's pupils, who became Bresciani's teachers. Andrew Jannetti recently celebrated 20 years of surviving the NYC jungle with his award-winning company, Andrew Jannetti & Dancers, and now teaches dance at Staten Island Academy. His session will deal with choreography by and for children. Mary Jane Wolbers former student of dance education pioneer Margaret H'Doubler will demonstrate her mentor's innovative technique.

Topics will include professional dance training around the world, national standards and models for teaching excellence, ArtsBridge, choreography, writing, technique and more.
